summer 2024

summer 2024

We were fortunate enough to be funded by Creative Scotland in order to make our first EP, and we recorded it in summer 2024, with an incredible band of musicians and producers, NovaSound, at GloWorm Studios in Glasgow.

September 2022: True North x Mica Paris

What an honour and an absolute riotously wild time it was to provide backing vocals for Mica Paris and Emeli Sande, and our very own Glasgow songstress Georgia Cecile, celebrating the music of Aretha Franklin, as part of True North festival.

Kathryn Joseph x Little Acres

“Little Acres are that very rare and precious thing - equal parts genius level talent and beautiful brilliant humans. Getting to work with them was one of my favourite times ever because not only were they able to turn my tricky noise into extreme beauty because of theirs they are also amazing humans to be around and their beautiful love of making music happen bleeds into everyone around them and makes others feel better.

The noise they make is very special and rare...We all need the kind of magical beauty they give and especially right now when the world feels hard to be in. I am so glad and lucky to know and love them and very grateful the beautiful sound they make exists.”

January 2022

Our latest single. Colours is a response to a very unusual time back at the end of 2020/start of 2021. A time that felt very black and white. This was a time of reflection, walking through the many parks of Glasgow and feeling present to the changing colours of the slowly turning seasons and headspace. This song is a call to find your way back to feeling connected with one another.

Natasha Bedingfield x COP26

We were honoured to be asked to join the RCS Orchestra to sing backing vocals for Natasha Bedingfield on her song Unwritten, as part of their concert ‘Vital Signs for the Planet’ during COP26 in November 2021.

True North : A Celebration of Stevie Wonder

September 2021 was a busy one - we headed North to Aberdeen to be the band backing Corinne Bailey Rae celebrating the music of Stevie Wonder ! This gig was a DREAM start to finish - digging into Stevie’s music to learn it, working with such talented and beautiful musicians, and meeting and performing with Corinne Bailey Rae including on two of her own iconic songs. The kind of job where you have to pinch yourself to check it’s real.

Us next to Chic’s keyboards - Sept 2021

What an honour it was to be supporting Nile Rodgers and Chic with Tom McGuire and the Brassholes ! Incredible gig ….

Song Sessions 2021: Do You Know?

This year, we are focusing on a year-long project, producing original music . Our third single is : Do You Know?

Inspired by the questions you ask when you realise you're actually going to have to find your own purpose in life...and you're not sure where to start.

Music and Lyrics by Little Acres / Synths and keys - Cariss Crosbie / Drums - Lauren Macdonald / Guitar - Jenny Clifford / Recording, mixing and bass - Joe Rattray / Mastering - Chris Waite

We co-created backing vocal and cello arrangements on this incredible new album by Adam Holmes. The music is so special - minimal, beautiful and intimate, about becoming a father. We were so happy to be asked to work with Adam and producer Mattie Foulds, and we can’t wait for the world to hear it. Order on https://www.adamholmesmusic.co.uk/

Song Sessions 2021: Go To Sleep

This year, we are focusing on a year-long project, producing original music monthly. Our second single is ‘Go To Sleep’

This song explores the space between sleep and awake where your thoughts take a hold of your judgement both of reality and of your own self.

Go To Sleep celebrates the growth, focus, power and unity we find in mother nature and the healing and hope she gives you.

A Rambling Arcade - Brodie Jarvie.

Brodie is a good friend and a truly impressive musician and we were honoured to be asked to put together this stonking vocal piece he has composed. Always interesting, unusual, and very rich, his music tells fairytales. Check out his group ‘Fine Men with Foul Tongues’ and his album on Bandcamp ‘Carefully Crafted Letters’.

Christmas 2020

Well, it’s different this year…one to remember…or forget. We put together a couple of remote performances for some great organisations. Silent Night is for Scottish Freelancers Ensemble Christmas Concert, with a host of incredible freelance musicians - full concert here

In the Bleak Midwinter is a gorgeous carol which we adapted for voices from our good friends at the Joshua Elcock Big Band, to be part of Josie Duncan’s Big Sing raising money from the incredible Simon Community and their sadly ever-vital work across Scotland. Please consider donating to help the Simon Community with their amazing work with homelessness: here and watch the full concert here

And please check out the full version for big band and voices by the Joshua Elcock Big Band and like, share and follow them for more brassy goodness!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Stay strong - better times ARE ahead, keep believing it. All our love, Little Acres xxxx

We hope this collaboration brings you some joy today. Of course we, like everyone else recently, have been thinking about productive allyship with the Black Lives Matter movement, as white musicians. We are all eternally grateful for the constant inspiration that generations of black musicians have given us in our own musical journey. The music we dedicate and adore so much was pioneered by the beautiful genius voices of so many black musicians. We respect, love and admire all black lives and we recognise the legacy of the music that gives us so much. Please read the links below for more thought on this and practical ways to help the movement. Hoping for better days ahead for everyone. https://www.theshowmustbepaused.com/about https://www.crer.scot/ https://interculturalyouthscotland.org/

The Song Sessions - Little Acres x Tom McGuire

This month it's the turn of long-time funksoulbrotha Tom McGuire of Tom McGuire & The Brassholes ! We've had some of our funnestest gigs ever with these crazy boys. Tom's skills as an incredible frontman are so well-known, people almost forget to mention what an amazing songwriter, vocalist and guitarist he is. And as it turns out, the message of this song is pretty topical. Dreaming of the day we can do this live. Back soon with more collaborations!

Little Acres x Finn Anderson

Well, the small matter of a global pandemic knocked our monthly schedule slightly off course, but we found a way to continue making music together despite being afar, and so here is March's collaboration - with the beautiful Finn Anderson.

Finn is a beautiful gentle soul, a gorgeous songwriter and successful theatre composer. We met Finn not so long ago, and since we've known him and his gorgeous songwriting we've been desperate to collaborate properly on something. We're still not totally satisfied as we couldn't meet in person, but we were so delighted to add our backing vocals to this beautiful new song of his for our monthly project.

Finn's album 'Until the Light' is out now

Lockdown - March 2020

Well, here it is. The fabled lockdown. Strange times…we are forced to slow down, re-evaluate how to make music, how we connect with each other, what it evens means to be connected to others…certainly for us, it’s difficult to make music when we’re not together, but still, we’re learning new things about ourselves and the music-making process.

More split-screen content to come, for now, here’s Lonesome Road by the Dixie Chicks. We hope it soothes you as it has done us.

Cowboy Take Me Away

This song was a childhood favourite of all of ours, so we thought we'd cover it. Dreaming of days we can all run into the wild blue! Nearly there...

Fat-Suit, Celtic Connections 2020

We have worked many times with Little Acres in both live and studio settings over the years, and they are our first port of call as backing vocalists. They are Glasgow’s resident BV dream team for a reason - always meticulously prepared, punctual and professional, and they approach all of their engagements with a sensitivity and attention to detail that ensures their contribution enhances the project immeasurably. They have both the chops to execute highly specific parts and the creativity to come up with their own bespoke arrangements depending on the needs of the project.
— Dorian Cloudsley, Fat-Suit

Song Sessions: Little Acres x Man of the Minch - January 2020

The first of our monthly sessions for 2020 - our beautiful pal Man of the Minch. Thanks to the The Glad Cafe for the use of their lovely space. Look out for the next month's session!

Music and Words by Man of the Minch / BV arrangement, audio and visuals by Little Acres

Little Acres are some of the most talented musicians I’ve ever had the good fortune to work with. No one is doing what Little Acres do quite so magically, and that’s evident in the number of quality artists across the Scottish music scene who are clamouring to work with them.
— Pedro Cameron, Man of the Minch

Song Sessions: Little Acres x Michael Cassidy

The first of our festive collaborations with professional cheeky monkey Michael Cassidy, on his gorgeous tune Sky Covered Blue. December 2019.
